THE START OF A START-UP

Together with prof. Peter Janssen, Frederik Ceyssens founded ReVision Implant in 2020 with the wish of using their  knowledge of the neurophysiology of the visual cortex, brain stimulation and microfabrication of flexible implants to help restore vision. Since then, many milestones have been reached - many more are to come! A grasp of the achievements so far:

• Developing a reliable, patented insertion technology allowing to reach a density comparible with over 2000 electrodes in a human visual cortex
• Proving implant lifetime to be over 10 years using accellerated aging tests
• Developing electronics encapsulation with the necessary feedthroughs
• Obtaining a prestigious EU EIC grant, together with our research partners KU Leuven, TTK an UPF
• Demonstrating biocompatibility in a rhesus monkey for over 2 years and counting
• Demonstrating the creation of 'virtual electrodes', potentially increasing the obtainable resolution
